Behavioral Specialist on Duty!

At BSAC, our mission is to go beyond traditional programming so each child is positively impacted. To provide the best experience possible, we have hired Maureen Armstrong as our new behavioral specialist. She previously worked for the Hillsborough county school system with children who were emotionally disturbed or had learning disabilities. Maureen is certified as a non-violent crisis intervention specialist, handling situations before they escalate too far out of control. Her role is to redirect children to good “green” behaviors by clearly explaining what is expected of them. “Just because they get mad doesn’t mean they can do whatever they want to do” said Maureen. “I help them understand right from wrong.” [...]

We are able to share the gift of swimming with thousands of children per year through new partnerships and countless initiatives. That being said, we are very excited to announce a brand new partnership with Chick-Fil-A! Upon completion of a set of swimming lessons, each child will receive a coupon for a free ice cream cone or box of nuggets! What better way [...]

He first joined us as a young camper before transitioning to volunteer. “The counselors that I had as a kid made such a big impact on me that I decided I wanted to become one myself” said Jalen, who is now in his fifth [...]

Meet Morgan – Our new Director of Curriculum!

The BSAC After-School Experience program (B.A.S.E.) had an outstanding first year across five offsite school locations. We introduced a variety of clubs for students to engage and participate in and received valuable feedback from both the schools and families. This year, we are thrilled to welcome Morgan Szymanski as our new B.A.S.E. Director of Curriculum! Morgan spent time observing each after-school location before meeting with principals to discuss their needs for curriculum guidelines. “We aren’t offering more school,” said Morgan. “We’re offering educational reinforcement by planning fun, innovative, and collaborative activities.” Our goal is to encourage teamwork and critical thinking by using a spin-off from traditional teaching methods. Students will have all [...]
